Title: Justice for Fraud Victims Project (JFVP) - An Overview

Description:   As recipients of the ACFE Research Institute (ARI) grant, Marie Rice and David Glodstein stand at the forefront of advancing the field of fraud examination and prevention. Rice, an Assistant Professor at Siena College and Director of the Center for Anti-fraud Resources and Examination Services (CARES), and Glodstein, a seasoned educator and director at SUNY Old Westbury, embody the synthesis of academic excellence and practical expertise. Their current project, focused on the Justice for Fraud Victims Project (JFVP), aims to set new benchmarks in community-engaged forensic accounting education and practice. The Justice for Fraud Victims Project is a high impact, service learning opportunity that provides forensic accounting services to small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and vulnerable adults. High impact practices improve the likelihood of postgraduate success in higher educationBy developing a best practice guide for academic institutions, their research not only promises to enhance the effectiveness of the JFVP but also to foster a new generation of skilled fraud examiners. This initiative highlights the vital role of the ACFE Research Institute in empowering researchers and practitioners to innovate and contribute significantly to the global fight against fraud. 

Professor Glodstein will speak about the Justice For Fraud Victims Project.

Bio: Dr. David Glodstein is an Associate Professor at SUNY Old Westbury since 1999. Dr. Glodstein earned his DBA from Northcentral University, a Masters in Taxation from Long Island University, and a Bachelors in Accountancy from The George Washington University. David is both a Certified Public Accountant (1990) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (2001). 

Dr. Glodstein was the lead professor in the development of the Masters in Forensic Accounting Program at Old Westbury which started in 2018. In addition, he developed both a Certificate in Forensic Accounting and a Micro-credential in Forensic Accounting. Dr. Glodstein currently teaches graduate courses in the MSFA program including Fraud Examination, Criminology/White-Collar Crime, Case Studies in Forensic Accounting, and Forensic & Accounting Research (capstone) course. Dr. Glodstein was the developer and current managing coordinator of the Justice for Fraud Victims Project (JFVP) which provides experiential learning opportunities to the MSFA students while at the same time helps small businesses and non-profit entities that have been victims of fraud.

Dr. Glodstein has authored and presented numerous scholarly articles. He earned the ACFE’s 2022 Educator of the Year Award and the 2022-2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for his work encouraging his students to join the anti-fraud profession, providing his students with real-life experience with programs like the JFVP and the IRS Criminal Investigation Division’s Citizens Academy, and mentoring. He has also assisted students in obtaining scholarships, like the ACFE’s Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship.

Event Policies

In order to receive CPE credit for this presentation, the attendee must attend for 50 minutes and answer three poll questions randomly presented during the event.

Program Cancellation Policy

If you have registered and/or paid for an event and you need to cancel, you MUST cancel online through your account no later than 5 days prior to the event, unless otherwise indicated in specific event policies, to request a refund and/or cancel your registration. The Chapter must confirm event registrations with the venue prior to the event and any changes after this time period can become a financial cost to the Chapter. The Chapter reserves the right to make the final determination on what percentage charge/refund will be returned for cancellations made after the cutoff. The default condition is that cancellations made after cutoff will be charged at 100% and/or no refunds will be allowed. In the event the Chapter determines that partial charges or refunds will be allowed, they will be made on a case by case basis.

In the event of having to cancel one of the events,  the Chapter would immediately send an email blast to all registrants with the emails they used for registration.  The Chapter media relations officer would post on all social media platforms notifying members of the cancellation, and the Chapter webmaster would also post cancellation on the Chapter website.

In the event an attendee does not show up to the event, the registration cost will be forfeited. If payment at the door was the selected method, then the attendee will be billed for the full cost of the event.
