The Houston Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Fraud Impact Award for 2025 was presented to KELLEN SHELTON, CFE, of the US Department of Homeland Security. His investigation into scams perpetrated on the Pakistani immigrant community in the Houston area led to multiple arrests and convictions, and stopped the victimization of said community.
The CFE of the Year award was presented to NANCY SUJECKI, CFE with the Harris County District Attorney's office. Working with Precinct 1 Constables (Harris County), Her analytical abilities were instrumental in transforming large amounts of raw data into actionable insights. Nancy developed comprehensive spreadsheets documenting all fraudulent transactions, making the extensive evidence clear and accessible to both investigators and prosecutors. Her work directly contributed to the identification of more than $900,000 in attempted fraudulent transactions, some of which dated back as far as January 2023. Her cooperation with the Precinct 1 Constables ensured a successful investigation and conviction.
The Educator of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Oscar Harvin, CFE of the Sam Houston State University, for his ongoing efforts in educating, mentoring, and connecting students to the fraud-fighting community in the greater Houston area. His professional demeanor and experience as the faculty advisor for the SHSU Student Chapter of the ACFE give his students reassurance and opportunities to achieve success upon graduation and beyond.
Our Speaker of the Year was Katherine Cobb, CFE, of the Bank of Houston. Katherine's engaging presentation to our members in person regarding Payment Fraud, Scams, and Elder Fraud was voted on by our members' as the best presentation of the year. Her insightful tips and wealth of knowledge on the subject was extraordinary.
The President's Award for service and leadership for our Houston ACFE board members went to Steve Acosta, Treasurer, whose willingness to lead by example, and professional and pleasant relationships with members and board, merit recognition. Furthermore, his tireless and enthusiastic work on planning and executing our yearly conference was noted and appreciated.
Our Cornerstone Award, newly established, went to Dan Ramey, CFE, whose years of service as a speaker, a mentor, a liaison, an educator and more merited special recognition. Always willing to help out when needed, the Houston board decided to create this award in honor of his cheerful demeanor and wise experience.
We also gave out 3 Lifetime Member Awards to Erica Garrison, Gregory Schuelke and Kim Crowe, for 25 year of continuous membership with the chapter. We thank you for your service and participation to the chapter!
