Title: A PI’s 'Outside the Box' Investigative Techniques and Tips From Sam Spade to James Bond

Description:  There are various investigative techniques utilized by Private Investigators over the years that have been rarely disclosed – until now.   This presentation will take the attendees back to some of the old gumshoe techniques that are still useful today to the modern era investigative techniques that are now available.  The course will be taught by a Private Investigator who has been in the PI business for over 40 years and has been conducting insurance investigations before specialized investigative units came into existence.    The Presenter will go “behind the scenes” by sharing some riveting stories about past and present investigative experiences and will disclose investigative tips that will leave everyone wanting more.This class is only for investigators who want to learn old and new “outside the box” investigative techniques.  Bring your notepad…or your iPad!  

Bio:  Richard is the Executive Vice President of Command Investigations, LLC., DBA - Specialized Investigations. He brings over 40 years of experience as an investigator and has worked in management for over 30 years.  Richard manages the daily operations of the business, along with business development and client retention.  Richard has spoken at many international, national, and local association conferences and events, as well as training many Investigators and Insurance industry SIU and Claims personnel.  Richard has the following certifications:

  • Certified as a Fraud Examiner by the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), membership requires a minimum of 12 years’ experience and education in fraud-related work, (1993).
  • Designated as a Certified Professional Investigator (CPI) by the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI).
  • Certification in Workers’ Compensation Claims Administration (WCCA) by the Insurance Educational Association (IEA).
  • Certified Fraud Specialist by the Association of Certified Fraud Specialists (ACFS).

Expertise in the investigation of suspected fraud (insurance,  medical, employment, corporate and others). Over 40 years experience as a Private Investigator. Manage a regional investigation firm with over 75 employees and five offices in CA, AZ, WA, TX. and OR. Headquarters in Simi Valley, CA. (Ventura County). Have investigated hundreds of medical clinics and have spoken on the subject of medical mills, social media investigations, and many other fraud-related topics before many association groups (IASIU, SCFIA, AFA, and many others). Also, have expertise in the investigation of assets, conducting background checks, skip tracing, and other types of investigations.

Specialties: Medical clinic Investigations; insurance fraud (auto, property, casualty, workers' compensation, healthcare, and disability); Public speaker, with extensive training provided to 1000's of insurance and other industry professionals.

    Event Policies

    Program Cancellation Policy

    If you have registered and/or paid for an event and you need to cancel, you MUST cancel online through your account no later than 5 days prior to the event, unless otherwise indicated in specific event policies, to request a refund and/or cancel your registration. The Chapter must confirm event registrations with the venue prior to the event and any changes after this time period can become a financial cost to the Chapter. The Chapter reserves the right to make the final determination on what percentage charge/refund will be returned for cancellations made after the cutoff. The default condition is that cancellations made after cutoff will be charged at 100% and/or no refunds will be allowed. In the event the Chapter determines that partial charges or refunds will be allowed, they will be made on a case by case basis.

    In the event of having to cancel one of the events,  the Chapter would immediately send an email blast to all registrants with the emails they used for registration.  The Chapter media relations officer would post on all social media platforms notifying members of the cancellation, and the Chapter webmaster would also post cancellation on the Chapter website.

    In the event an attendee does not show up to the event, the registration cost will be forfeited. If payment at the door was the selected method, then the attendee will be billed for the full cost of the event. The Chapter reserves the right to bar future registrations for any attendees who routinely register and fail to pay and/or attend the event.  If you have any questions you may email events@houstonacfe.org."
