Title: "Common Pitfalls In a Compliance and Ethics Program

Description:   An effective corporate compliance program is an essential component of internal controls for uncovering and preventing ethical lapses and criminal violations and smart companies are prudently adopting these programs. However, it is not enough to merely implement the program. It is also essential the program is properly and competently administered and maintained.  The purpose of a corporate compliance program is to promote an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law.  The presentation will discuss the essential elements and common pitfalls of compliance and ethics programs.  

Bio:  Robin manages and leads the organizational design, implementation, and enforcement of Ethics and Compliance Program for the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company.  He is responsible for Ethics, Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, Information confidentiality, Fraud, Misconduct, Corruption, Conflict of Interests and the alike for the health system at Abu Dhabi covering 10 hospitals / health care providers, 65 clinics with a total employee strength of 18,000 employees.  He promotes organizational culture that encourages a strong commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations and ethical conduct.  He developed policies & trained employees on Conflict of Interest, Whistle-blowing, Fraud Control Framework, Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, Information and confidentiality policy, anti-corruption framework, in line with local laws and regulations.  

He has been awarded as the “Top 50 Smart leaders” award across the Middle East in the field of Ethics and Compliance and the recipient of "40 under forty" award by NACVA, USA . His professional experience is spread across UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Afghanistan, Singapore & India; Consulted and managed fortune 500 clients and governments across healthcare, supply chain, oil and gas and financial services to carry out proactive, reactive, and cross-border engagements such as white-collar crime investigations, guiding management's through regulatory and compliance related issues, developed compliance and anti- bribery programs, assisted managements through conflict of laws relating to compliance and governance with the help of a multi-cultural teams; He is an experienced public speaker, trainer and an established writer.  He previously worked at Protiviti, Deloitte and CNBC.

Robin is a graduate of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, Masters in Law Degree, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, MIT, Information Sciences and Technology, and S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Master of Business Administration (MBA).  

Learning Objectives:

  • Define how a government entity conducts business in full compliance with all national and international laws and regulations and professional standards
  • Recognize when a compliance committee report of serious matters is necessary
  • Identify the elements of a solid Compliance Annual Plan, including periodic reviews of an entity's policies and training.
