The Houston ACFE invites you to join us for our April In Person Training Event for Networking and Education (4 Hrs including 1 hour of Ethics)

This event is a four hour event that we are providing at a discounted price to our current Houston Chapter members.  We will have 3 hours of Specialized Knowledge and One Hour of Ethics.  If you aren't a member yet, this is a great time to join!!  Join at the Houston ACFE website: www.houstonacfe.org

Presentation 1:  The Legal Fight Against CyberFraudRobert Lemus, JD, GRSM

Description: TBD

Bio: He is a proven litigator and advisor with experience representing clients in a wide variety of complex matters, including commercial litigation and arbitration, corporate and product liability defense, internal investigations, cybersecurity, and consumer protection. His clients range from large corporations to individuals, and come from industries ranging from energy, financial services, cryptocurrency and mining, data protection, commodities trading, auto parts, and construction.

Mr. Lemus has practiced in both the public and private sectors in federal and state courts, to include both trial and arbitral forums representing clients in domestic and international interests. He is admitted to practice in Texas, the U.S. District Court, Southern, Northern, and Eastern Districts of Texas, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He received his law degree from University of Houston Law Center and his undergraduate degree from University of Houston.

Presentation 2:   Ethics in Forensic Accounting Practice, Sean Sarsfield CFE, CFF, CPA

Sean Sarsfield joins HKA as a Principal based in Houston, Texas. Sean has over 22 years of professional experience in forensic accounting, business interruption, litigation support, and expert witness services. He has provided fraud detection and forensic accounting services in investigations dealing with embezzlement, misappropriation of assets, financial reporting fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty.  

Sean has determined economic damages and lost profits in matters involving business torts and business interruption. His experience also includes providing expert witness testimony and support services in arbitration, mediation, and trial for various clients. 

Before joining HKA, Sean was a director at Forvis Mazars. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management at Albion College. He is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Michigan, New York, and Texas. 

Presentation 3 (Two Hours), Ben Bierce, Brave Investigations

Title: Unlocking the Truth – Cell Phone Record Analysis & Mobile Device Forensics

Description: In today’s digital world, mobile devices hold critical evidence in investigations. This presentation will explore the fundamentals of cell phone record analysis and mobile device forensics, revealing how call detail records, GPS data, and messaging logs can uncover key insights. Benjamin Bierce, a seasoned investigator with expertise in digital forensics, will break down real-world cases, demonstrate forensic tools, and discuss legal considerations. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to interpret mobile data effectively to support criminal, civil, and corporate investigations.

Bio:  Benjamin Bierce is a seasoned investigator with over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, military service, and digital forensics. A former Infantry Paratrooper, Combat Medic, and CID Special Agent in the U.S. Army, he served two combat tours in Iraq and worked across four continents. He later joined the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, holding roles from Homicide Detective to Digital Forensics Examiner.

In 2012, Bierce launched his first business specializing in digital forensics for civil litigation. Since then, he has testified as an expert witness in over 40 trials and depositions and earned a Master’s in Cybersecurity from Liberty University.

Beyond investigations, Bierce is dedicated to community service, volunteering with Kairos Prison Ministry. Based in Boerne, TX, he leads Brave Investigations with a commitment to integrity, innovation, and uncovering the truth.

    Event Policies:

    Program Cancellation Policy

    If you have registered and/or paid for an event and you need to cancel, you MUST cancel online through your account no later than 5 days prior to the event, unless otherwise indicated in specific event policies, to request a refund and/or cancel your registration. The Chapter must confirm event registrations with the venue prior to the event and any changes after this time period can become a financial cost to the Chapter. The Chapter reserves the right to make the final determination on what percentage charge/refund will be returned for cancellations made after the cutoff. The default condition is that cancellations made after cutoff will be charged at 100% and/or no refunds will be allowed. In the event the Chapter determines that partial charges or refunds will be allowed, they will be made on a case by case basis.

    In the event of having to cancel one of the events,  the Chapter would immediately send an email blast to all registrants with the emails they used for registration.  The Chapter media relations officer would post on all social media platforms notifying members of the cancellation, and the Chapter webmaster would also post cancellation on the Chapter website.

    In the event an attendee does not show up to the event, the registration cost will be forfeited. If payment at the door was the selected method, then the attendee will be billed for the full cost of the event. The Chapter reserves the right to bar future registrations for any attendees who routinely register and fail to pay and/or attend the event.  If you have any questions you may email events@houstonacfe.org."
